Under the morning sun, local farmers of Santa Maria, Bulacan gathered to hear how their livelihoods could grow through dairy farming and corn silage production. The meeting highlighted new opportunities for the town’s agricultural sector.
National Dairy Authority (NDA) Administrator Atty. Marcus Antonius T. Andaya led the discussion with Mayor Bartolome “Omie” R. Ramos, City Administrator Engr. Elmer Clemente, and Councilor Rico Sto. Domingo, Chair of the Agriculture Council. Local farmers were also present to learn how NDA programs can help them improve milk production and farm income.
During the meeting, Atty. Andaya explained the importance of using idle lands for growing corn silage, a key feed for dairy buffaloes and cows. He also discussed how local farmers can access support from NDA, including farm inputs, machinery, and technical guidance to increase milk yields.
Mayor Ramos welcomed the programs, noting that they could provide additional income and opportunities for Santa Maria’s farming community. “These initiatives will help our farmers earn more while promoting sustainable agriculture in our town,” he said.
Santa Maria is home to two major cooperatives, the Santa Maria Dairy Cooperative and Luzon Dairy Cooperative, which have long partnered with NDA to strengthen local milk production. Through these programs, dairy farmers receive training, market access, and technical support, helping them improve both production and livelihoods.
The meeting emphasized collaboration between national agencies, local government units, and farmers to boost the dairy industry in Bulacan. By combining resources, knowledge, and support, the NDA and Santa Maria government aim to make dairy farming a sustainable source of income for families in the region.
