The Philippines and Peru have opened a new door for agricultural trade after signing a Work Plan for the Exportation of Fresh Hass Avocados from Peru to the Philippines on October 21, 2025. The agreement marks a new milestone in strengthening cooperation and trust between the two nations.
The signing was led by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) of the Philippines and the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (SENASA). It was held alongside a bilateral meeting aimed at deepening agricultural collaboration, particularly in plant health and market access.
Under the new work plan, Peruvian exporters can now ship fresh Hass avocados to the Philippine market, following strict phytosanitary requirements and operational guidelines set by both countries. These standards ensure that imported fruits are free from pests and diseases, and meet food safety rules before reaching Filipino consumers.
According to BPI officials, the move reflects the Philippines’ growing efforts to expand access to high-quality fresh produce while ensuring plant biosecurity. The technical discussions leading to the signing covered pest risk analysis, inspection procedures, and monitoring systems to guarantee the safe entry of avocados into the country.
Meanwhile, Peru’s SENASA welcomed the agreement as a symbol of mutual trust and shared commitment to agricultural progress. The deal also opens opportunities for Philippine exporters to explore future access to the Peruvian market for local fruits and crops.
The importation of fresh Hass avocados from Peru comes as demand for the fruit continues to rise in the Philippines, especially among consumers and food businesses. The agreement is expected to help stabilize local supply during off-season months and offer consumers more options at competitive prices.
The partnership between BPI and SENASA is part of ongoing government efforts to modernize the country’s agricultural trade systems and strengthen global cooperation under the “Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas” vision for a more resilient and inclusive food sector.
