Under the bright morning sun of San Agustin, Romblon, local leaders and farmers gathered to discuss ways to bring fresh, locally produced milk to their communities.

On February 18, the National Dairy Authority (NDA), led by Administrator and Undersecretary Marcus Antonius Andaya, met with the province’s local chief executives to plan the expansion of dairy programs in Romblon. The consultation aimed to introduce cattle-raising and dairy production initiatives that would increase the local supply of fresh milk while supporting the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

During the meeting, NDA officials outlined strategies to improve herd management, provide technical assistance, and enhance access to dairy inputs such as high-quality feed and veterinary support. The goal is to create a sustainable local dairy industry that reduces reliance on imported milk products and ensures residents have access to safe, nutritious milk.

Local officials expressed strong support for the program, highlighting its potential to boost income for farmers and strengthen food security in the province. The collaboration also emphasizes training for farmers in proper milking techniques, farm hygiene, and milk processing to meet health standards and increase productivity.

By expanding these programs, the NDA hopes to build a resilient dairy sector in Romblon, contributing to the broader goal of a more self-sufficient and sustainable Philippine food system. Officials stressed that this initiative is part of the agency’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and empowering rural communities through science-based, practical interventions.

With careful planning and cooperative efforts between national and local government, Romblon could soon see a rise in locally produced milk, benefiting both farmers and consumers alike.
