On a sunny morning in October, officials from LANDBANK and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) gathered to sign a partnership aimed at securing the country’s water future. For many Filipinos, especially those in communities struggling with water shortages and poor sanitation, this collaboration brings hope for cleaner, more reliable water access.
On October 15, 2025, LANDBANK and DENR formalized their agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This partnership will strengthen efforts in sustainable water management by offering both financial aid and technical assistance to local water districts, local government units (LGUs), and organizations working on water supply, sanitation, and conservation projects.
LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz and DENR Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla led the signing ceremony. They were joined by LANDBANK Senior Vice President Gonzalo Benjamin A. Bongolan and DENR Undersecretary Carlos Primo C. David, signaling strong support from both agencies for the initiative.
Water security is a growing concern in the Philippines as climate change, population growth, and urbanization put increasing pressure on water resources. According to the World Bank, many areas in the country face challenges like water shortages and contamination, which impact health, agriculture, and economic activities. This partnership aims to address these issues by promoting projects that conserve water and improve supply systems.
By providing financial products tailored for water projects and sharing technical knowledge, LANDBANK and DENR hope to empower local governments and communities. These efforts will help improve water access, sanitation services, and environmental protection.
This collaboration also supports the government’s broader goals for environmental sustainability and resilience against climate risks. With better water management, communities can better withstand droughts and floods, protecting both livelihoods and ecosystems.
The partnership is a positive step toward securing a sustainable and equitable water future for all Filipinos. As these programs roll out, residents across the country can expect improved water services and stronger support for local water conservation efforts.
