Families across the Philippines rely on safe, clean meat for their daily meals. Behind this everyday need are dedicated agencies working together to ensure every bite is safe. In a heartfelt moment during the opening of the 32nd Meat Safety Consciousness Week (MSCW) and the 53rd anniversary of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the agency recognized its government partners for their invaluable support in promoting meat safety and consumer protection.

Held this October, the ceremony was led by NMIS Officer-in-Charge Executive Director Dr. Roberto S. Umali and Deputy Executive Director Dr. Ronnie Ernst A. Duque, who awarded plaques of appreciation to partner agencies that helped advance the agency’s programs.

DA and Livestock Office take lead in food safety

The Department of Agriculture (DA), represented by Undersecretary Constante J. Palabrica on behalf of Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr., received recognition for its strong leadership in promoting food safety, raising inspection standards, and supporting the meat and livestock industry nationwide.

The Office of the Undersecretary for Livestock, also represented by Usec. Palabrica, was praised for its continued backing of health and safety efforts in the livestock sector — a key part of food production in both urban and rural communities.

Spreading awareness through communication and service

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA), through representative Philip Evangelista, was also honored for helping raise public awareness on NMIS programs and advocating for consumer protection through its wide reach in media and grassroots communication.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission (CSC), represented by Directors Cherry C. Berris and Claudia A. Tan, was commended for promoting professionalism and integrity in NMIS services. Their support ensures that public workers deliver efficient and trustworthy services to the people.

Modern tech and sound budgeting behind the scenes

The DBP Data Center, Inc., represented by Michielson L. Luakian, was cited for providing digital and IT solutions that help modernize NMIS systems — making operations faster and more transparent.

Also awarded was the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), represented by Director Gemma G. Ilagan, for helping NMIS push forward food safety efforts while maintaining responsible financial management.

Training and reforms boost agency performance

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) received appreciation for providing training that improves the skills and knowledge of NMIS personnel — key to strengthening services at the ground level.

Finally, the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) was recognized for supporting NMIS in simplifying its procedures, making services more accessible and efficient for both consumers and businesses.

A united effort for safe meat and healthy communities

This collective recognition shows the importance of strong partnerships in public service. NMIS continues to work hand-in-hand with various government agencies to provide safe, high-quality meat to Filipino consumers — from the farm to the market table.

Through cooperation, innovation, and public trust, the agency reaffirms its mission to protect the health of the people while building a more sustainable and resilient meat industry.
