With proud smiles and raised right hands, two employees of the Department of Agriculture – National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI) officially took their oaths for their new positions this October.
Dr. Maria Theresa Mutia, Executive Director of DA-NFRDI, led the simple but meaningful oathtaking ceremony, which recognized both a promotion and a new appointment within the agency.
Promoted and ready to serve
On October 6, Ellaine Jose-Bermejo took her oath as Science Research Specialist II. She is assigned to the Capture Fisheries Research and Development Division, where she will help advance sustainable fishing practices and contribute to fisheries research in the country.
Bermejo, who has served DA-NFRDI with dedication, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her. Her promotion reflects the agency’s recognition of internal talent and commitment to employee growth.
New blood in finance
On October 20, Roger Yarte Jr. officially joined the institute as Accountant III, assigned to the Financial and Administrative Division. With his background in public accounting, Yarte is expected to help strengthen financial systems and ensure transparency in the use of public funds.
His appointment is part of DA-NFRDI’s continuing efforts to build a reliable team of professionals who can support research and development work through strong internal operations.
Investing in people to serve better
Executive Director Mutia emphasized that every promotion and new hire is a step toward better service delivery and stronger institutional capacity. She encouraged the employees to work with integrity, excellence, and a deep sense of public duty.
DA-NFRDI plays a vital role in the agriculture and fisheries sector by conducting research that supports policymaking, innovation, and sustainable practices. Through its human resource programs, the agency ensures that its workforce is well-equipped and motivated to fulfill its mission.
As the oathtaking ceremony closed, both Bermejo and Yarte stood not just as employees, but as public servants ready to contribute to the nation’s food security and the welfare of Filipino fisherfolk.
