A growing number of Filipinos have recently received suspicious calls and messages from people pretending to be connected with the Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE). These scammers allegedly use the agency’s name to ask for money or personal information — a move the Department of Agriculture (DA) firmly denies.
In a public advisory released this week, the DA–BAFE clarified that it has no connection with individuals or groups making such claims. The bureau emphasized that it does not solicit money, offer permits, or make deals through unofficial channels. It added that the agency upholds transparency and integrity in all its transactions.
“We want to assure the public that BAFE has never and will never engage in any unscrupulous act,” the statement read. “Any transaction outside official BAFE offices or verified communication channels should be considered suspicious.”
The DA urges everyone to remain alert and to report any fraudulent messages or calls immediately. Those who encounter fake agents using the BAFE name may contact the bureau through the following hotlines: 0956-655-3434 or 0928-430-1651, or send an email to da.bafe.info@gmail.com.
Scams involving fake government representatives have become more common across the country. Authorities remind the public to verify information before sharing personal or financial details, especially when approached online or by phone. Most official government transactions are processed through formal offices or verified email addresses, not through social media or personal contacts.
The BAFE plays a key role under the Department of Agriculture, overseeing programs related to farm machinery, postharvest facilities, and agricultural infrastructure nationwide. Protecting its reputation and public trust is crucial, the agency said, as it continues its mission to modernize Philippine agriculture and support farmers and fisherfolk.
The DA also encouraged the public to help spread awareness and protect others from potential scams. Every report helps law enforcement track down individuals or groups trying to take advantage of ordinary citizens.
As online scams grow more sophisticated, vigilance remains the best defense. Filipinos are urged to deal only with verified government personnel and report any suspicious activity right away.
