In rural towns across the Philippines, farmers and fisherfolk rely heavily on farm-to-market roads to bring their harvests to local markets. But the Bureau of Agriculture and Farm Enterprises (BAFE) is now urging everyone to stay vigilant against illegal activities tied to these critical routes.
BAFE has issued a strong warning to local officials, farmers, and fisherfolk to immediately report any suspicious arrangements, deals, or transactions involving farm-to-market roads. These illegal activities, the agency said, could disrupt the transport of crops and fish, hurt livelihoods, and undermine the government’s efforts to strengthen rural commerce.
The agency emphasized that reporting suspicious transactions helps ensure that farm produce reaches markets safely and fairly, and that farmers and fisherfolk receive proper compensation for their hard work. BAFE also reminded stakeholders that it is fully committed to monitoring road-related transactions and will coordinate with local authorities to prevent and investigate violations.
Officials encourage community members to be proactive: check any unusual deals, verify contracts, and immediately notify BAFE if anything seems illegal. Protecting farm-to-market roads not only safeguards income for rural households but also supports local economies and food security.
