In a move to promote greater government transparency, the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) have joined hands to boost digital monitoring of government projects through the Digital Information for Monitoring and Evaluation (DIME) Initiative.
During a recent meeting in Quezon City, officials from BAFE and the DBM’s DIME Unit, led by Mr. Kenneth Chuacon, discussed how the platform can enhance accountability and encourage public participation in monitoring infrastructure projects.
The DIME Initiative is a government-wide digital platform designed to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement by providing open access to real-time project data. Through DIME, the public can easily track the progress of government infrastructure projects using interactive maps, satellite images, and updated reports.
According to the DBM, DIME aims to make project information more reliable and accessible to both government partners and the public. This allows citizens to see where government funds are going and how projects are being implemented, helping reduce corruption and inefficiency in public spending.
For BAFE, the partnership means better monitoring of agricultural and fisheries infrastructure projects such as farm-to-market roads, irrigation systems, post-harvest facilities, and fishery support structures. By adopting DIME, BAFE can strengthen data accuracy, improve planning, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
“This collaboration with DBM through DIME reflects our commitment to digital transformation and transparency in agricultural infrastructure,” BAFE officials said. “It is part of our effort to modernize monitoring systems and make public service more open and accountable.”
The Department of Budget and Management has been developing the DIME Initiative to align with the government’s Digital Transformation Strategy, which focuses on using technology to improve governance, streamline services, and increase public trust in government programs.
The meeting between BAFE and DBM also discussed possible training programs and data-sharing arrangements to ensure seamless coordination between the two agencies. These steps aim to enhance both the accuracy and timeliness of project reporting and strengthen coordination between national and local governments.
With agriculture serving as one of the backbones of the Philippine economy, improving infrastructure and ensuring transparency in its development are vital. The DIME Initiative is expected to help ensure that every peso spent on agricultural projects truly benefits farmers and fisherfolk across the country.
BAFE and DBM reaffirmed their shared vision of building a more transparent, data-driven government where citizens can see and understand how public resources are used to improve their lives.
