In a heartfelt appeal, Aljhon L. Igbuhay urged communities to honor and protect women, stressing that violence against them must stop immediately. His statement came as the country observes the annual “18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women,” a nationwide effort to raise awareness and promote safety for women and girls.

Igbuhay emphasized that respecting and valuing women is not just a campaign but a daily responsibility for every Filipino. “Ending abuse and discrimination against women starts with each of us. We must ensure safe homes, workplaces, and communities for all,” he said.

The 18-day campaign, observed from November 25 to December 12, is led by the Philippine Commission on Women and supported by government agencies, local government units, and civil society organizations. It aims to highlight the different forms of violence women face, including physical, emotional, and economic abuse, and to promote resources for victims.

Experts note that violence against women remains a critical social issue in the Philippines. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, one in every four Filipino women aged 15–49 has experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence by a partner. Advocates stress that campaigns like this are crucial in educating communities, strengthening legal protections, and encouraging victims to seek help.

Igbuhay encouraged everyone to actively participate in initiatives that protect women and promote gender equality. By fostering respect and awareness, communities can help break the cycle of violence and build a safer, more equitable society.

The 18-Day Campaign serves as a reminder that ending violence against women requires collective action—from families, neighbors, schools, workplaces, and government authorities. Every effort counts in creating a society where women are safe, respected, and empowered.
