Juicy, sweet mangoes bring Filipino flavor to Italy’s capital event.

ROME, Italy – Under the golden autumn sun of Rome, a familiar aroma greeted overseas Filipinos—ripe, juicy mangoes straight from the Philippines. It was a taste of home that brought smiles, sparked memories, and drew long lines at the “Serbisyo Caravan” held last October 12, 2025, in the Italian capital known as the Caput Mundi or “Capital of the World.”

The event, organized for the Filipino community in Italy, showcased not only government services but also proudly Filipino products—including the world-renowned Philippine mango. Sweet, fragrant, and freshly served, the mangoes stood out among booths offering consular assistance, livelihood support, and migrant welfare services.

Led by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with Philippine Embassy officials and local Filipino community leaders, the mango tasting became one of the highlights of the event. Organizers said the goal was to give OFWs and migrant Filipinos a chance to reconnect with the flavors of their homeland, even thousands of miles away.

“We wanted our kababayan to not just receive services, but also feel seen, remembered, and appreciated,” said one DA representative present at the event.

Philippine mangoes, particularly the Guimaras and Zambales varieties, are globally known for their exceptional sweetness and quality. In fact, they’ve been exported to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for years. The inclusion of these fruits in the Serbisyo Caravan was also a soft promotion of Philippine agri-products abroad—a way of introducing local produce to international markets through community engagement.

Aside from mangoes, the caravan featured cultural performances, free medical consultations, and seminars on government programs such as reintegration assistance and investment opportunities in the Philippines. It was a one-stop-shop for many overseas Filipinos needing help and hoping to stay connected to their roots.

Thousands of Filipinos live and work in Italy, many as caregivers, domestic workers, or service crew. Events like these serve both practical and emotional purposes—providing access to services while reminding OFWs of the richness of their culture.

The Serbisyo Caravan is part of the larger campaign “Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas”, an initiative that aims to bring government closer to the people, especially to those abroad who have contributed greatly to the country’s economy through remittances.

As the day ended, many participants left the venue holding a slice of mango, smiling, with a renewed sense of pride in being Filipino.
