The conference room buzzed with anticipation as evaluators carefully reviewed the accomplishments of agriculture and fishery leaders from across the Philippines. On October 21, 2025, the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) officially began the table evaluation for the 2025 Search for Outstanding Agricultural and Fishery Council (AFC) Executive and Sectoral Committees, including chairpersons, secretariat-coordinators, and regional AFC executive officers (REOs).
Members of the National Technical Committee (NTC) and the National Technical Secretariat (NTS) were present, diligently examining each entry. The annual Search aims to recognize exemplary AFC leaders and committees for their significant contributions in advancing agriculture and fisheries. Beyond celebration, the program seeks to inspire innovation and good practices that other AFCs and development-oriented organizations can adopt.
In his opening remarks, NTC Chairperson and PCAF-AFMD Chief Cyril Soliaban reminded evaluators of the Search’s deeper purpose. He said, “As we go through each nomination, let us keep in mind that the spirit of the Search is to recognize their accomplishments and their genuine commitment to volunteerism that we are espousing here in PCAF.”
The table evaluation is a critical step in determining which nominees demonstrate outstanding leadership, dedication, and impact on local agriculture and fisheries. Evaluators assess entries based on achievements, community engagement, and innovative approaches that benefit farmers, fisherfolk, and related stakeholders.
The results from this stage will be forwarded to the National Board of Judges (BOJ) for final deliberation. Winners will set a benchmark for excellence and serve as role models for other AFC members striving to improve performance and promote sustainable, productive practices.
Through initiatives like this, PCAF highlights the importance of recognizing dedicated leaders who contribute to a stronger, more resilient agricultural sector. By celebrating their efforts, the Council hopes to encourage broader participation, collaboration, and innovation in programs that support farmers, fisherfolk, and rural communities across the country.
