For meat handlers, inspectors, and processors across the country, accreditation often meant long lines, repeated follow-ups, and weeks of waiting. For many small operators, especially outside Metro Manila, the process could delay business and add extra costs. This changed on February 2, 2026, as the government rolled out a digital system aimed at making accreditation faster and easier.

The National Meat Inspection Service officially launched the Accreditation and Registration Information System Version 2, or NARIS V2, to simplify and modernize the accreditation and registration process nationwide. The system was introduced by the NMIS Accreditation and Registration Division in partnership with its Information and Communication Technology Unit.

NARIS V2 is an upgraded online platform that allows institutions, professionals, and organizations in the meat industry to apply for accreditation and registration without the need for repeated physical visits. Through the system, users can submit applications online, upload required documents securely, and track the status of their applications in real time.

NMIS said the new system was designed to address long-standing concerns from stakeholders, including slow processing, lack of transparency, and limited access to services for applicants in far-flung areas. By moving key steps online, the agency aims to reduce processing time while ensuring that standards for food safety and meat inspection remain strict.

Under NARIS V2, applicants can complete transactions anytime and anywhere, as long as they have internet access. This is expected to benefit small and medium enterprises, meat establishments, and individual professionals who previously had to travel or wait for manual updates. Real-time tracking also allows applicants to see where their application stands, reducing uncertainty and unnecessary follow-ups.

The NMIS said the system supports its broader push for innovation and transparency in public service. Digital records help improve accountability, minimize errors, and create a clearer audit trail for both regulators and applicants. Secure document uploads also help protect sensitive information while speeding up evaluation.

Meat inspection and accreditation play a critical role in public health. NMIS is responsible for ensuring that meat sold in markets and establishments meets national safety and quality standards. Proper accreditation of facilities and professionals helps prevent the spread of meat-borne diseases and protects consumers.

In recent years, the meat industry has faced growing demands as the population increases and food supply chains become more complex. Digital systems like NARIS V2 are seen as essential tools to keep regulation efficient without compromising safety. NMIS officials said the upgrade also prepares the agency for future improvements, including better data analysis and integration with other government systems.

The launch of NARIS V2 comes as more government agencies shift to digital platforms to improve service delivery. For the agriculture and food sectors, faster and clearer processes can mean steadier supply, lower costs, and better compliance with safety rules.

NMIS encouraged stakeholders to use the new system and familiarize themselves with its features. The agency said it will continue to gather feedback to further improve the platform and ensure it responds to the needs of the meat industry and the public.

As NARIS V2 begins full operation, NMIS hopes the system will not only save time and effort but also strengthen trust between regulators and industry players. By making accreditation easier and more transparent, the agency aims to support safer meat for Filipino consumers while helping businesses operate more smoothly.
