Inside government offices across the country, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) staff donned a united stance against violence toward women, marking the start of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from November 25 to December 12, 2025. For many, the campaign serves as a vivid reminder that safety, respect, and equality for women are responsibilities that extend far beyond any designated period.

In a message to staff, NMIS Officer-in-Charge Dr. Roberto S. Umali stressed that women and girls are indispensable to society—not only in their roles at home but also as active partners in nation-building. He highlighted that workplaces, public spaces, and communities must be safe, equitable, and supportive for all, especially women.

“Violence against women remains a global human rights violation,” Dr. Umali said. “We must actively counter all forms of violence, including behaviors in professional settings such as discrimination, gender inequality, and sexual harassment.”

As an agency responsible for safeguarding public health through meat inspection, NMIS extends its commitment to protecting the well-being and dignity of women across the nation. Staff are urged to recognize unacceptable behavior, intervene when necessary, and foster environments where women feel secure and respected.

The campaign encourages everyone—especially public servants—to uphold gender equality and human rights, creating spaces where women can thrive without fear. By uniting against violence, NMIS joins the broader call for a safer, more just society for all Filipinos.

Dr. Umali concluded, urging colleagues to embody the campaign’s ethos: “Let us remain UniTEd for a VAW-free Philippines.”
