From small rice retailers to large warehouses, stories of resilience and dedication fill the latest pages of GRAINS Magazine, the official publication of the National Food Authority (NFA). The January–June 2025 edition is now available to the public, showcasing how the NFA continues to support the country’s rice supply chain through its evolving programs and projects.
Released this October, the latest issue features success stories of individuals and communities positively impacted by the agency’s ongoing work. The magazine also provides updates on food security efforts, rice procurement, distribution, and the NFA’s partnerships with local government units and farmers’ cooperatives across the Philippines.
A look inside GRAINS
With the theme “Sa Serbisyong Patas at Tapat, Bigas ay Laging Dekalidad,” the publication reflects NFA’s continued mission to provide affordable and high-quality rice to Filipino families, especially during times of crisis.
One story highlights a rice retailer from Bicol who was able to stabilize her supply with NFA support during El Niño. Another article details how remote communities in Mindanao benefited from mobile rice caravans launched in early 2025. These efforts were in response to fluctuating market prices and the need for accessible food staples in far-flung areas.
Also featured are technical innovations such as improved warehousing systems, stricter quality control measures, and trainings for NFA employees and stakeholders to improve food safety and efficiency.
Why this matters now
With global food security challenges affecting many developing countries, including the Philippines, the NFA plays a vital role in ensuring that rice remains available and affordable. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, rice inflation rose by 19.8% in September 2025 compared to the same period last year. The NFA continues to help stabilize prices by augmenting supply and maintaining strategic buffer stocks.
By releasing GRAINS regularly, the agency aims to keep the public informed of its ongoing reforms and services under the Bagong Pilipinas governance agenda.
