As floodwaters rose and winds battered homes, families in Camarines Sur turned to their local leaders for help. On the same day it marked its 53rd anniversary, the National Food Authority stepped up to deliver one of the most essential lifelines: rice.

On September 26, 2025, the National Food Authority (NFA) – Camarines Sur provided emergency rice supply to several municipalities affected by Typhoon Opong. The move came as part of the agency’s ongoing disaster response efforts to ensure food security during calamities.

A total of 800 sacks of rice were delivered to the municipalities of Pili, Libmanan, and San Fernando, all of which experienced the brunt of the recent typhoon. These stocks will be distributed by the local government units (LGUs) to families in evacuation centers and communities in need.

Fulfilling the NFA’s Mandate in Times of Crisis

In line with its mission, the NFA continues to serve as the government’s frontline agency in making rice accessible and available to every Filipino, especially during disasters.

“Sa ganitong mga pagkakataon, hindi lang bigas ang naibibigay namin, kundi pag-asa,” said an NFA staff member from the regional office.

Typhoon Opong, which swept through parts of Southern Luzon and the Bicol Region earlier this week, left many communities without access to food and clean water. With damaged roads and flooded fields, many families are now relying on government aid for survival.

Part of a Bigger Goal: Food Security for All

This quick response reflects the renewed vision of the NFA under the Bagong Pilipinas campaign — a movement that aims to build a resilient and inclusive government capable of meeting the real needs of Filipinos.

The distributed rice came from the NFA’s calamity buffer stock, which is regularly maintained to support disaster-stricken areas. These stocks undergo proper quality checks to ensure that even in emergencies, people receive clean, safe, and quality rice.

In the coming days, more rice assistance is expected to be delivered to other areas affected by the typhoon, as assessments continue and local governments coordinate with the agency.

Serving with Compassion, Responding with Urgency

As the NFA marks more than five decades of public service, its work in times like this proves that mandato at malasakit go hand in hand. With each sack of rice delivered, the agency reaffirms its commitment to serving the Filipino people, especially the most vulnerable.

For many families in Camarines Sur, this rice is more than just food — it’s a reminder that they are not alone in facing the aftermath of disaster.
