On a sunny morning in San Agustin, Southern Luzon, local officials gathered to discuss ways to boost the province’s milk production. Farmers and community leaders listened closely as plans unfolded to expand government dairy initiatives.
National Dairy Authority (NDA) Administrator Undersecretary Atty. Marcus Antonius Andaya visited the town to meet with Romblon mayors and municipal officials. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the expansion of NDA programs aimed at strengthening local dairy farming and ensuring a steady milk supply for government feeding programs.
In an interview with PIA Romblon, Andaya explained that the agency is working to introduce modern dairy practices and support local farmers in Romblon. By increasing the production of fresh milk from local cows, the NDA aims to secure nutritious milk for school feeding programs and other community nutrition initiatives.
“Romblon has great potential for local dairy development. Our goal is to help farmers increase productivity while providing sufficient milk for children and communities,” Andaya said. He emphasized that the agency will provide technical support, training, and access to improved dairy breeds and facilities.
The NDA’s plans include the establishment of dairy demonstration farms, training workshops for local farmers, and partnerships with municipal governments to improve supply chains. These efforts are part of a broader government strategy to strengthen local food systems, reduce dependence on imported dairy products, and improve nutrition outcomes.
Local mayors welcomed the initiative, noting that it can provide additional income for farmers while addressing nutrition gaps in schools. By encouraging community-based dairy development, the program also seeks to create sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
The NDA’s engagement with Romblon reflects a commitment to regional development and highlights the importance of collaboration between national agencies, local governments, and farmers. With continued support and coordination, the agency hopes to build a reliable, self-sufficient local dairy sector that benefits both producers and consumers.
