Public invited to give feedback on nominees until October 17
MANILA, Philippines — How should we define true leadership in public service?
The Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) believes it starts with integrity, vision, and impact — values it now aims to highlight through its newly launched Leadership Award under the annual GCG Awards.
This new recognition seeks to honor Appointive Members of Governing Boards of Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) who have shown exceptional performance, strong leadership, and a clear commitment to public service. These are individuals whose work has brought about real improvements to their GOCC, its stakeholders, and the communities they serve.
Leadership with real results
According to the GCG, nominees for the Leadership Award must not only excel in governance but also bring about tangible progress — whether in terms of improved services, responsible management of public funds, or innovation in operations.
“The award aims to highlight not just good leadership, but leadership that delivers positive outcomes,” the agency said in its announcement.
To ensure the credibility and transparency of the selection process, GCG is opening the evaluation to the public.
Citizens’ feedback needed
The public is encouraged to take part by submitting their feedback or comments on any of the nominees’ performance, impact, or public reputation. Feedback will be considered during the selection process to validate accomplishments and contributions.
Comments may be emailed to gcgawards@gcg.gov.ph until October 17, 2025.
To review the list of nominees and learn more about the criteria, the public may visit the Leadership Award section on the GOCC Corner via https://gcg.gov.ph.
Recognizing good governance
The GCG Awards aim to promote excellence and accountability in the public corporate sector. By recognizing board members who exemplify responsible and strategic leadership, the commission hopes to encourage higher standards in managing GOCCs.
Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations play a key role in delivering public services and managing state-owned assets. Strong leadership in these institutions directly affects the quality and efficiency of government programs, from healthcare and utilities to transportation and housing.
Promoting transparency and trust
The GCG believes that the involvement of the public in the evaluation process not only makes the award more credible, but also strengthens public trust in government institutions.
This effort aligns with the broader call for good governance, transparency, and merit-based recognition in the Philippine bureaucracy.
