The sun rose over farms and markets across the Philippines as government agencies and farmers prepared for Food Safety Awareness Week from October 27 to 31, 2025. From vegetable gardens to busy wet markets, the campaign aims to remind Filipinos that safe food begins on the farm and continues to the table.

The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) is joining the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Health – Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in promoting this year’s theme: “Food Safety: Putting Science in Action From Farm to Table; A Shared Responsibility of Everyone.” The initiative highlights the critical role that farmers, food processors, retailers, and consumers play in keeping food safe for all.

FPA stressed its commitment to supporting farmers and fisherfolk by ensuring proper use of fertilizers and pesticides. These efforts help prevent contamination of crops and livestock, which is vital for public health. Farmers are encouraged to follow recommended practices, from careful handling of chemicals to observing proper waiting periods before harvest.

The celebration also serves as a platform to educate the public about food safety standards, hygiene, and the science behind safe farming practices. Experts will provide guidance on reducing risks of contamination, handling produce safely, and understanding food labeling to make informed choices.

Food safety remains a shared responsibility. While agencies set regulations and provide support, consumers also play a role by washing produce thoroughly, cooking food properly, and storing items safely. Public participation is key to ensuring that every meal served at home or in restaurants is safe and healthy.

As Food Safety Awareness Week unfolds, FPA, DA, and FDA aim to strengthen collaboration across the food supply chain. Their joint efforts emphasize that protecting public health is not just a government duty—it requires active participation from everyone, from farmers to families preparing meals at home.

By putting science into practice and fostering awareness, the Philippines moves closer to a safer, healthier food system that benefits communities nationwide.
