In the busy streets of General Santos City and the farmlands of Sarangani, staff and volunteers rolled up their sleeves to make a difference. From October 21 to 24, the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) led a Clean-Up Drive Operation aimed at protecting farmers, the public, and the environment.
The activity focused on the proper disposal and management of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides. By safely collecting unused or expired chemicals, the FPA sought to prevent potential hazards to health and the ecosystem while promoting responsible farming practices.
Officials emphasized that proper handling of agricultural inputs is not just a regulatory requirement but also a shared responsibility. “Our farmers are at the heart of food security,” an FPA spokesperson said. “Ensuring that chemicals are used and disposed of safely protects their health and the environment they depend on.”
The Clean-Up Drive covered urban and rural areas, including markets, warehouses, and farming communities. Participants were trained in identifying hazardous materials, segregating waste, and following protocols for safe disposal. These efforts also included raising awareness among farmers and residents about the importance of environmental stewardship in agriculture.
Such initiatives reflect the FPA’s commitment to sustainable farming and public safety. By preventing chemical contamination and promoting responsible practices, the authority aims to build a safer and healthier agricultural sector for all Filipinos.
The FPA encourages farmers and the public to stay vigilant about the proper use and disposal of agricultural inputs and to participate in future programs that support food security and environmental protection.
