Sunlight streamed over the bustling venues as farmers, students, and urban gardeners lined up to explore the free agricultural resources offered during the second day of Buwan ng Butil 2025. From curious beginners to seasoned growers, participants eagerly grabbed e-learning materials and signed up for training courses to boost their farming skills.
The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) organized the event, offering free registration for courses across key government agencies, including the Bureau of Plant Industry in Manila, Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI) in Taguig, and the National Food Authority (NFA) in Quezon City. The initiative aims to strengthen knowledge and skills in modern farming, supporting the national push for food security and sustainable agriculture.
At the NFA venue, Ms. Maria Carmina de Mesa guided participants through the basics of hydroponics, showing how simple setups can yield fresh vegetables even in small urban spaces. Meanwhile, at FTI Taguig, Ms. Shandee Fay Catimbang shared insights on vegetable seed production, teaching farmers how to select, grow, and preserve high-quality seeds to ensure better harvests.
“The materials and training are very helpful for us small farmers. We learn new ways to increase production and reduce losses,” said a participant from Quezon City, reflecting the enthusiasm seen throughout the day.
With workshops, e-learning resources, and hands-on guidance, Day 2 of Buwan ng Butil emphasized practical skills that farmers can immediately apply. Organizers noted strong interest in courses that combine traditional techniques with modern innovations, reinforcing the importance of lifelong learning for the agricultural sector.
The three-day event continues tomorrow with the final day expected to draw even larger crowds eager to deepen their knowledge and celebrate the spirit of farming. By connecting farmers to the latest practices and resources, Buwan ng Butil 2025 aims to strengthen food production, empower communities, and inspire the next generation of growers.
