Farmers and agri-workers can now breathe a little easier—with just a few taps, they can soon survey and monitor rice fields using their mobile phones.

On October 10 at 10:00 AM, the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) is set to introduce a new digital tool that aims to make rice farming smarter, faster, and more efficient. The mobile application, called DigiSaka, promises to simplify data collection and field monitoring for both farmers and agricultural technicians.

Mobile App for Smarter Farming

DigiSaka is designed to support palay farmers and field workers in gathering and tracking real-time information about rice production areas. By using the app, they can easily:

  • Conduct surveys on rice fields

  • Monitor crop conditions

  • Input and access data needed for better planning

  • Identify areas that need support or intervention

The app is part of the government’s broader push to digitalize agriculture services under the Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas initiative. With better access to accurate and timely information, the DA hopes to improve decision-making from the grassroots to the national level.

Open to the Public: Launch and Registration Details

The DigiSaka app will be formally introduced via an online launch event that is open to all interested participants, especially farmers, agricultural workers, and LGU staff working in the rice sector.

Representatives from PhilRice will walk participants through how to use the app, its features, and how it fits into the national rice program’s goals. There will also be an open forum to address questions or concerns.

Empowering Farmers Through Technology

Technology has become a crucial tool in addressing the growing challenges in agriculture—from climate change to rising input costs and labor shortages. Apps like DigiSaka offer a way for farmers to adapt and stay competitive by using digital solutions to manage their crops more efficiently.

The DA encourages farmers, LGU agriculture offices, and development workers to take advantage of this new platform. Through tools like DigiSaka, the agency hopes to not only boost productivity but also improve the overall quality of life for Filipino rice farmers.

As agriculture embraces innovation, DigiSaka marks a promising step toward a more inclusive and tech-enabled farming future.
