In communities across the Philippines, many women face daily threats of abuse and harassment. From homes to workplaces, the fight against violence is ongoing, and the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) is calling on everyone to take part.
From November 25 to December 12, 2025, NFRDI joins the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW). This annual initiative serves as a platform to raise awareness, strengthen policies, and engage communities in preventing abuse.
This year’s campaign emphasizes a “whole-of-nation” approach, encouraging every Filipino—regardless of age, gender, or background—to speak up, act, and support survivors. It seeks to create a culture where women and girls are safe, heard, and empowered to thrive without fear.
Violence against women can take many forms, from physical and sexual abuse to emotional harm and economic deprivation. The 18-Day Campaign encourages individuals and institutions to identify these forms of abuse and actively work to stop them. NFRDI highlights that ending VAW is not just a women’s issue—it is a shared responsibility that involves families, workplaces, local governments, and communities.
Officials and advocates stress that action must go beyond awareness. Supporting survivors, promoting justice, and ensuring accountability are key components of building a safer society. Programs under the campaign include educational activities, community dialogues, policy briefings, and social media advocacy to reach a broad audience.
NFRDI’s participation reinforces the role of government agencies in protecting vulnerable groups while promoting equality and inclusion. The campaign also aligns with national efforts to strengthen laws against VAW and improve services for survivors, including counseling, legal support, and emergency care.
As the 18-Day Campaign unfolds, Filipinos are urged to take part—report incidents, support survivors, and challenge attitudes that tolerate violence. Collective action, advocates say, is essential to building a Bagong Pilipinas where women and girls can live safely and with dignity.
