In the quiet neighborhood of Glori-mor Ville in Naic, Cavite, hope is growing alongside seedlings. On October 2025, the Department of Agriculture–Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) CALABARZON and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Naic formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the “Sowing Sustainability” project. This effort aims to strengthen the community garden in Glori-mor Ville, a beneficiary area under the National Housing Authority (NHA) Cavite District.

This project is part of the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program, which seeks to improve food access and livelihood opportunities for residents. Earlier in August 2025, members of the Glori-mor Ville community attended a training called “Sow, Grow, and Sustain: Urban Agriculture Technologies for Enhancing Food Access and Livelihood Opportunities.” This training equipped them with practical skills in urban farming, an important step toward a more sustainable and self-reliant neighborhood.

Engr. Elma Valenzuela, Officer-in-Charge Municipal Agriculturist, and Sotero Llamas, Community Social Services Officer of NHA Cavite District, expressed their strong support for the project. They emphasized the importance of empowering the community with knowledge and livelihood skills to improve their quality of life.

Dr. Rolando Maningas, Center Director of DA-ATI CALABARZON, also recognized the initiative as a vital move to promote urban agriculture. He highlighted its role in supporting local communities and helping build resilient food systems in the region.

Urban farming has become an essential solution in many Filipino communities, especially in densely populated areas where land and resources are limited. Projects like “Sowing Sustainability” help residents grow fresh vegetables and fruits right in their neighborhoods. This not only improves nutrition but also creates opportunities for additional income.

As the country faces challenges in food security, partnerships between government agencies and local units play a crucial role in ensuring that families have steady access to healthy food. By working together, they can turn small plots of land into thriving gardens that nourish communities.

The success of the Glori-mor Ville garden can inspire other communities across CALABARZON and beyond to adopt urban farming. It shows that with proper guidance and collaboration, even small efforts can lead to meaningful change.
