IBA, ZAMBALES – Even as heavy rains pounded the province, public servants pushed through with their duties to ensure no one goes hungry behind bars.

On September 9, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Olongapo withdrew 100 sacks of well-milled rice from the NFA Government Import Distribution (GID) Warehouse in Iba, Zambales, showing that basic food support continues despite bad weather.

The rice withdrawal was facilitated by JO2 Aaron Jacob V. Marcos, who represented BJMP during the operation. Together with the NFA Iba Warehouse Team, they made sure that all stocks were inspected, clean, and of high quality before being released for transport.

Continuing Service, Rain or Shine
While the country faced the brunt of strong monsoon rains and typhoons, the National Food Authority (NFA) stressed its commitment to ensure stable rice supply, especially for government institutions like jails, hospitals, and evacuation centers.

“Our goal is clear—no Filipino should go hungry, especially during emergencies,” said a local warehouse official. “Storm or no storm, NFA will continue to deliver.”

The distributed rice will help feed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under BJMP care in Olongapo. These provisions are part of the regular government supply chain that supports state-run institutions with affordable, quality rice.

Quality Checked, Fairly Distributed
The rice provided is well-milled, meaning it has passed NFA’s quality standards and is safe for daily consumption. Before release, warehouse staff performed routine checks to ensure the grains were properly stored, moisture-free, and suitable for human consumption.

The NFA emphasized that it continues to uphold “Serbisyong Tapat at Patas”—serving all sectors fairly and honestly, in line with the government’s call for improved and compassionate public service under the #BagongPilipinas campaign.

Support for Vulnerable Sectors
Aside from BJMP, NFA also supplies rice to public hospitals, military camps, and other government facilities. In times of disaster, their warehouses also serve as immediate rice sources for relief operations.

With food security a continuing challenge due to rising prices and climate disruptions, government efforts like these are crucial in supporting not just public institutions, but also the larger goal of ensuring food access for every Filipino.

The NFA Zambales team assures the public that rice stocks in their warehouses remain sufficient, regularly inspected, and ready for release as needed.
