In the bustling city of General Santos, the heart of Mindanao’s livestock industry, farmers, experts, and government officials are preparing for a key event that could shape the future of Filipino livestock and poultry farmers.

From October 14 to 17, 2025, the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other agencies, will hold the 2025 National Livestock and Poultry Summit. This event is part of the yearly celebration of National Livestock Month every October.

The summit will serve as a vital gathering for stakeholders across the country. It aims to raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities in the livestock and poultry sectors. More importantly, it will promote cooperation among farmers, industry players, government bodies, and policy makers to work together for sustainable growth.

PCAF Executive Director Bernadette De Los Santos highlighted the importance of including all voices in shaping policies. She said, “At PCAF, we remain committed to making sure that the voices of our stakeholders are heard and reflected in our national policies and programs.” She added that the summit’s discussions and recommendations will guide efforts toward building a livestock and poultry industry that is inclusive, safe, and competitive.

The livestock and poultry industries are key to rural livelihoods and the country’s food security. However, farmers face many challenges such as disease outbreaks, climate change impacts, and market access difficulties. The summit will tackle these issues and explore strategic initiatives to help farmers improve production, income, and resilience.

By fostering multisectoral collaboration, the summit hopes to advance innovative solutions and policies that will benefit the whole industry. The goal is to uplift rural communities, ensure the safety of animal products, and strengthen the supply chain for Filipino consumers.

As the livestock and poultry sector continues to grow, the event will help stakeholders stay informed and connected. It is a chance to celebrate successes, address problems, and plan for a stronger future in Philippine agriculture.
