Colorful floats rolled through the streets of Laoag City as crowds gathered to celebrate the 2026 Pamulinawen Grand Parade. Among the highlights was a float proudly showcasing the coconut industry, drawing cheers as it passed by.

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) was named 2nd Runner-Up in the Small Float Category during the annual Pamulinawen Grand Parade held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The recognition honored the agency’s creative presentation and its efforts to promote the value of the coconut sector to a wider audience.

The Pamulinawen Festival is one of Ilocos Norte’s major cultural celebrations. It features parades, street dancing, and community activities that highlight local heritage and industries. This year’s parade brought together government agencies, private groups, and civic organizations, each presenting floats that reflect their advocacy and achievements.

PCA’s award-winning float focused on promoting coconut as the country’s “crop of opportunities.” The coconut industry is considered one of the pillars of Philippine agriculture. The country remains one of the world’s top producers and exporters of coconut products, including coconut oil, desiccated coconut, and other value-added goods.

Millions of Filipino farmers depend on coconut farming for their livelihood. According to government data, the coconut sector supports around 2.5 million farmers nationwide. Beyond food products, coconuts are used in cosmetics, biofuels, and various industrial materials, making the industry an important contributor to rural income and export earnings.

The PCA team, led by Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dexter R. Buted, was recognized for its dedication in highlighting the importance of coconut farming not only as a livelihood but also as a symbol of resilience and growth. Also acknowledged were PCA Regional Manager Mark Roy Q. Macanlalay and CFIDP-Project Management Office Department Manager Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag for their support in promoting the sector.

The Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), which guides many of PCA’s programs, aims to modernize the coconut industry, increase farmer income, and expand market opportunities. Showcasing these efforts in public events helps raise awareness about the programs available to farmers and encourages community support.

Winning 2nd Runner-Up in the Small Float Category is more than a festival honor. It reflects the growing effort to bring agricultural stories into mainstream celebrations. By participating in local festivals, agencies like PCA connect with communities in creative ways and remind the public of the role agriculture plays in daily life.

As the parade concluded and the winners were announced, the recognition served as a proud moment for the agency and for the coconut farmers it represents. It also reinforced the message that agriculture remains a strong foundation of the nation’s economy and culture.

With continued dedication and innovation, the coconut sector hopes to create more opportunities for farmers and strengthen its contribution to national development. Events like the Pamulinawen Grand Parade show that agriculture can shine not only in the fields, but also on the festival stage.
