On a busy day in Pasay City, store owners and operators welcomed inspectors from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Metropolitan Environmental Office (MEO) – West. The recent Compliance Monitoring Inspection was part of an ongoing campaign to protect the environment and enforce existing environmental laws.
The inspection aimed to ensure that both public and private establishments comply with key environmental regulations. These include the Philippine Clean Water Act (RA 9275) to safeguard water bodies, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) for proper waste handling, and the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act (RA 6969) that regulates hazardous chemicals and waste disposal.
During the visit, MEO-West personnel reminded store owners of their responsibilities under these laws. They explained the importance of following environmental rules to help maintain cleanliness and safety in their communities. The activity also sought to increase awareness and encourage cooperation rather than focus solely on penalties or legal action.
The DENR emphasized that inspections like this serve as opportunities to educate stakeholders about environmental protection. By deepening understanding, they hope to foster voluntary compliance and shared commitment to preserving natural resources.
The DENR National Capital Region plans to continue these inspections and related campaigns as part of a broader effort to build a cleaner, safer, and more resilient environment across Metro Manila.
As communities grow and develop, such initiatives remind us all of the vital role we play in protecting our surroundings for ourselves and future generations.
