As Typhoon Tino approaches the Bicol region, the National Food Authority (NFA) in Sorsogon has intensified its efforts to ensure that families will have steady access to safe and sufficient rice supplies during and after the storm.

Workers were seen covering rice stocks in NFA warehouses and preparing emergency releases to local government units (LGUs) that may be affected by the typhoon. The Masbate Field Unit has already distributed 1,700 bags of rice to several municipalities, including Milagros, Aroroy, Baleno, Mobo, Esperanza, Pio V. Corpus, Cataingan, Balud, and Cawayan.

The move is part of the agency’s proactive disaster response strategy aimed at preventing shortages and maintaining food security in times of calamity. According to NFA Sorsogon officials, protecting the rice stockpile from moisture and flood damage is a top priority, ensuring that relief rice remains clean, dry, and ready for immediate distribution.

With typhoons frequently hitting Bicol, the NFA plays a vital role in disaster preparedness by coordinating closely with local governments, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and disaster risk reduction offices. These partnerships enable faster rice releases to evacuation centers and communities in need once disaster strikes.

“Ligtas na bigas, ligtas na mamamayan,” the NFA emphasized in its public statement, highlighting the importance of preparedness and accountability in delivering quality rice for Filipino families. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to its motto, “Sa Serbisyong Pantas at Tapat, Bigas ay Laging Dekalidad,” underscoring transparency and compassion in public service.

As Bicol braces for Typhoon Tino’s landfall, residents are encouraged to stay alert, follow weather advisories, and coordinate with local authorities for safety and emergency assistance.
