On their first days at work, newly hired government employees gathered inside the National Food Authority’s Central Office, listening closely as senior officials explained what public service truly means. For many, the orientation marked the start of a career tied directly to the country’s food security and rice supply.
The National Food Authority (NFA) Central Office, through its Administrative and General Services Department, conducted a New Employees Orientation on December 19 and 22, 2025, at its headquarters in Quezon City. The activity was organized to guide newly appointed personnel as they begin their roles in public service.
The orientation aimed to help new employees understand government policies, employee benefits, workplace rules, and their responsibilities as civil servants. It also introduced them to the NFA’s mandate, values, and organizational culture, which play a key role in ensuring stable and affordable rice for Filipino families.
During the sessions, participants were briefed on essential topics such as government service standards, employee conduct, benefits and compensation, and internal procedures. These discussions were designed to help employees adjust smoothly to their new roles and build confidence in performing their duties.
Officials said the orientation is not only about rules and policies, but also about building a sense of purpose. As an agency tasked with rice buffer stocking, procurement, and distribution, the NFA’s work directly affects millions of Filipinos, especially low-income households that rely on affordable rice.
AGSD Department Manager Lily Beth A. Sunga said the activity forms part of the agency’s continuing effort to guide employees in delivering efficient and honest service. She stressed the importance of understanding government standards and working with dedication from the very beginning.
According to Sunga, well-informed employees are better equipped to perform their duties properly and contribute to a healthy working relationship between staff and management. Clear guidance at the start of employment helps reduce confusion and supports long-term productivity.
The orientation also emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in government work. New employees were reminded that public trust is built through fair, transparent, and consistent service. Upholding these values, officials said, is essential to fulfilling the NFA’s mission.
The activity supports the agency’s message, “Sa Serbisyong Patas at Tapat, Bigas ay Laging Dekalidad,” which reflects its commitment to honest service and quality rice for the public. With rice remaining a staple food for most Filipino families, the role of NFA employees remains vital to national food security.
