Under the warm sun at the DPWH-MIMAROPA grounds in Quezon City, government workers, food advocates, and local officials gathered to mark a global celebration with a local purpose — ensuring that no Filipino goes hungry.

On October 16, 2025, the National Food Authority (NFA) took part in the World Food Day 2025 celebration, held at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) MIMAROPA Regional Office. The global event, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, carried the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.”

The NFA’s presence highlighted its key role in protecting the nation’s food supply, especially in times of disaster, inflation, or emergency. By maintaining a sufficient and quality rice buffer stock, the NFA ensures that Filipinos — especially the poor and vulnerable — have access to affordable rice when it’s needed most.

According to NFA officials, their participation in World Food Day is a reflection of their renewed commitment to fair, honest, and reliable service. The agency, long known for its vital role in food security, continues to adapt to the needs of the public through stronger partnerships and more efficient operations.

“Sa Serbisyong Patas at Tapat, Bigas ay Laging Dekalidad,” the agency said in a statement — underscoring its efforts to supply quality rice at fair prices, guided by integrity and compassion.

World Food Day is celebrated annually in more than 150 countries to raise awareness about hunger, malnutrition, and sustainable food systems. In the Philippines, the Department of Agriculture and its attached agencies, including the NFA, lead the commemoration through forums, exhibits, and outreach activities that promote the right to food and the importance of agricultural development.

This year’s event also reminded Filipinos that solving hunger is not the job of one agency alone. It takes teamwork across sectors — from farmers and government agencies to private groups and everyday consumers.

As climate change, conflict, and economic pressures continue to challenge food systems, the NFA said it remains ready to respond with solutions that are people-centered and grounded in science and service.

The agency encouraged the public to support programs that uplift farmers, reduce food waste, and build stronger local food chains — a vital step toward a food-secure and resilient Philippines.
