Inside the halls of the National Food Authority (NFA), a renewed sense of pride and purpose fills the air. The agency’s dedication to gender equality has been recognized on a national scale, shining a light on its commitment to empowering women in the workplace and beyond.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) recently honored the NFA for ranking second among government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) in the highest organization-focused Gender and Development (GAD) budget expenditure. This achievement highlights the agency’s ongoing efforts to promote equal opportunities and support for women.
Under the leadership of NFA Administrator Dr. Larry R. Lacson, the agency has strengthened programs that foster gender sensitivity, equal participation, and safe working environments. The recognition also reflects the hard work of the NFA’s Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS), Technical Working Group (TWG), Secretariat, and Central Office Staff, all of whom have played key roles in advancing these initiatives.
GAD budgets are important because they ensure government agencies allocate resources for programs that promote gender equality. These programs include training, health services, livelihood projects, and policies that protect women’s rights and empower their role in society.
The NFA’s achievement sends a clear message: gender equality is not just a policy but a practice embedded in the agency’s culture. It aligns with the national goal of building a more inclusive society where everyone has equal access to opportunities regardless of gender.
