Inside a busy conference room at the National Dairy Authority (NDA) central office, officials gathered to chart the future of the country’s dairy sector. National Dairy Administrator Atty. Marcus Antonius T. Andaya met with Deputy Administrator Atty. Gavino Alfredo C. Benitez and key staff, joined by Alaska Milk Corporation executives led by Corporate and Legal Affairs Director Atty. Cashmer Dirampaten.
The meeting focused on how Alaska Milk can support NDA in taking over certain regulatory functions previously managed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This transition is part of NDA’s expanded mandate to oversee more aspects of the dairy industry, ensuring that safety, quality, and standards are strictly maintained across local milk production.
Officials also explored potential partnerships to strengthen the domestic dairy sector, from technical support and capacity building to joint initiatives that can help local farmers and producers improve productivity and product quality. The discussion highlighted NDA’s commitment to working closely with private stakeholders, ensuring that regulatory transitions are smooth and effective.
“This collaboration with the private sector reflects our goal to make the dairy industry more resilient and competitive,” Andaya said. “By combining regulatory oversight with industry expertise, we can better serve consumers and support local farmers.”
The meeting underlines the NDA’s proactive approach in expanding its role while fostering cooperation with private partners to boost local milk production, improve regulatory enforcement, and promote sustainable growth for the Philippine dairy industry.
