Families, students, and office workers streamed into the Foro de Intramuros on Wednesday morning, eager to catch the last day of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Expo. Many carried eco-bags, hoping to bring home fresh produce at affordable prices before the stalls closed.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and its attached agencies, including the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), welcomed visitors to the third and final day of the expo in Manila City. The event, part of the government’s effort to improve food access, gathered farmers’ groups, cooperatives, and local producers offering goods at lower prices compared to regular markets.

Officials said the expo aims to strengthen the Kadiwa program, which connects farmers directly to consumers. This model reduces transport and marketing costs, allowing shoppers to buy rice, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and other essentials at more affordable rates.

Throughout the three-day activity, visitors also had the chance to meet agricultural experts and learn about programs that support soil health, irrigation efficiency, climate resilience, and sustainable farming. The DA-BSWM booth drew interest from students and urban gardeners who asked about composting, soil testing, and water management technologies.

Other DA agencies showcased services that help farmers boost productivity. These included information on credit programs, training opportunities, and post-harvest equipment available to small producers. Many farmers’ organizations also reported strong sales and positive feedback from Manila residents who appreciated the direct-from-farm setup.

Vendors shared that events like the Kadiwa Expo help them earn fair income without relying on multiple middlemen. Consumers, meanwhile, said the fair prices were a welcome break, especially as households continue to face rising costs of basic goods.

The DA said more Kadiwa events are planned for the coming months in different parts of the country to reach more communities. The agency added that it hopes the program will continue to build stronger links between producers and buyers while promoting food security and stable market conditions.

As the final day of the expo wraps up, organizers encourage the public to keep supporting local farmers and to stay updated on upcoming Kadiwa activities in their area.
