At dawn in the quiet farms of Isabela, the sound of cows being milked signals another day of hard work. For many farmers, this daily routine now carries new hope as the province steps up efforts to grow its dairy industry.

The provincial government of Isabela is strengthening its dairy sector to increase farmers’ income and support nutrition programs in local communities. This move comes through an expanded partnership with the National Dairy Authority (NDA), aimed at building a sustainable and locally driven dairy value chain.

On April 8, 2026, Governor Rodolfo T. Albano III and Vice Governor Francis Faustino A. Dy met with NDA Administrator Marcus Antonius T. Andaya in the City of Ilagan. The meeting focused on accelerating the implementation of programs that will improve dairy production and distribution across the province.

Officials said the initiative will help dairy farmers earn more by improving access to better breeds, modern equipment, and technical training. By strengthening production, the province aims to meet the growing demand for fresh milk and dairy products, while reducing dependence on imports.

The program also supports government nutrition efforts, especially for children. Fresh milk is a key part of feeding programs in schools and communities, helping address malnutrition and improve overall health. With increased local production, more families can benefit from affordable and nutritious dairy products.

The Philippines continues to rely heavily on imported milk, with local production meeting only a small portion of national demand. Because of this, provinces like Isabela are seen as important players in expanding the country’s dairy capacity. With its wide agricultural land and strong farming community, Isabela has the potential to become a major dairy hub in Northern Luzon.

The partnership with NDA will also focus on building a complete value chain—from production and processing to marketing. This ensures that farmers are not only producers but also active participants in the business side of the dairy industry.

Local leaders expressed confidence that the program will create more jobs and strengthen rural livelihoods. By investing in dairy, the province is also promoting inclusive growth, where small farmers can share in the benefits of development.

As the program moves forward, farmers in Isabela are looking ahead with optimism. With stronger support and better opportunities, the simple act of milking cows may soon lead to bigger gains for families and communities.
