Sunlight streamed over the Leyte Convention Complex on September 13, 2025, as farmers gathered to receive a long-awaited support from the government. Smiles and relief were visible as more than ₱2 million in indemnity checks were handed over during the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair.

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Regional Office 8 led the turnover, with Acting Regional Manager Maria Fatima Marino, Marketing and Sales Chief Benita Alberto, and PCIC Extension Office-Tacloban staff personally presenting the checks to Leyte Provincial Agriculturist Imelda Sievert. The Provincial Agriculturist’s Office will distribute the checks directly to the farmer-beneficiaries.

The indemnity provides vital financial support to farmers affected by crop losses due to natural calamities and other risks. For many recipients, the payout helps cover farm expenses, protect livelihoods, and stabilize income after challenging months of planting and harvesting.

During the event, PCIC also set up an information booth where agency representatives assisted farmers with inquiries and guided them through insurance applications. This service aligns with the caravan’s goal of bringing government programs closer to the public, ensuring that farmers can easily access benefits without traveling long distances.

The Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair reflects ongoing efforts to support farmers and promote agricultural resilience across the region. By providing timely indemnities and guidance on crop insurance, agencies like PCIC aim to strengthen rural livelihoods and encourage more farmers to enroll in risk protection programs.

For Leyte farmers, the fair was more than a ceremonial event—it was a tangible sign that the government is committed to protecting their hard work and investing in the sustainability of agriculture in the region.
