Early Tuesday morning, women’s groups and government workers gathered in Metro Manila wearing purple ribbons, a quiet but firm symbol of support for victims of abuse. Their message was simple: every woman and child deserves to live without fear.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) has joined the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children, which runs from November 25 to December 12, 2025. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness about the realities of abuse and encourage communities to protect the rights and welfare of vulnerable groups.
DENR-NCR officials said the agency remains committed to promoting respect, equality, and a safe environment for all. While the department is best known for its work in managing natural resources and urban ecosystems, it stressed that safety and dignity are essential to building healthy and sustainable communities.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, thousands of cases of violence against women and children are reported every year, with many more believed to go unreported due to fear, shame, or lack of support. Advocates say this highlights the need for stronger community involvement, accessible reporting channels, and continuous education on women’s rights.
Throughout the campaign period, DENR-NCR will participate in activities aimed at informing the public, strengthening employee awareness, and supporting government efforts to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence. These include forums, information drives, and partnerships with local groups working to protect women and children.
Officials also encouraged the public to take part by learning the signs of abuse, offering support to victims, and reporting incidents to authorities. They reminded communities that preventing violence is not the responsibility of one agency alone but a shared duty of families, barangays, and institutions.
Advocates emphasize that creating a safe society begins with everyday actions—listening without judgment, speaking up against discrimination, and ensuring that homes, schools, and workplaces uphold the rights of women and children.
As the campaign continues across the country, organizers hope that more Filipinos will join the call for change. They believe that a future free from violence is possible if communities stand together and protect those who are most at risk.
