To help farmers make better decisions, BSWM encourages the use of the FertRight App. This free digital tool helps farmers and technicians interpret soil test results and recommends the right fertilizer combination based on crop type, location, and soil condition. The app is designed to be simple and user-friendly, making it accessible even to small-scale farmers.
In addition to the app, the Department of Agriculture operates soil and plant laboratories across the country. These facilities offer soil analysis services to guide farmers on proper fertilization. Through these services, farmers can avoid guesswork and rely on science-based recommendations.
Proper fertilization is not only about increasing yield. It also plays a major role in protecting the environment. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers can contaminate water sources, damage beneficial soil organisms, and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Balanced fertilization helps maintain healthy soil while reducing negative environmental impact.
BSWM also reminds farmers that timing matters. Applying fertilizer too early or too late can reduce its effectiveness. Nutrients may be washed away by rain or fail to reach the plant roots when they are most needed. Soil testing helps determine the best time to apply fertilizer for maximum benefit.
