As the year draws to a close, many Filipinos are preparing for family gatherings, travel, and year-end errands. For farmers, traders, and stakeholders in the livestock sector, this also means planning ahead for government transactions before the holiday rush begins.
The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry, through its Animal Health and Welfare Division (BAI-AHWD), has announced a temporary closure of its office in observance of the upcoming regular and special non-working holidays.
In a public advisory, the BAI-AHWD said its office will be closed on December 24, 25, 29, 30, and 31, 2025, as well as on January 1 and 2, 2026. These dates cover the Christmas holidays, year-end break, and New Year celebrations as declared by the government.
During the closure, the processing of regulatory issuances and other office operations will be suspended. This includes applications, permits, certifications, and related transactions handled by the Animal Health and Welfare Division. Normal operations will resume on the next official business day after the holidays.
The bureau advised stakeholders to submit applications, requests, and renewals ahead of time to avoid delays. This reminder is especially important for livestock raisers, veterinarians, traders, and businesses that rely on timely approvals for animal transport, health certifications, and welfare-related requirements.
The Animal Health and Welfare Division plays a key role in ensuring the safety and health of animals in the country. It oversees regulations related to animal disease prevention, animal welfare standards, and the movement of livestock and poultry. These functions are vital in protecting the local livestock industry and ensuring the safety of food products that reach consumers.
Holiday closures are standard across many government offices, but the BAI said early planning can help prevent disruption, particularly for businesses that operate continuously even during the holidays. Delays in permits or clearances can affect animal transport, market supply, and farm operations, especially during a season when demand for meat and animal products is usually high.
The bureau also reminded the public that animal health concerns do not take a holiday. Livestock owners are encouraged to maintain proper biosecurity measures, ensure animal welfare, and coordinate with local veterinary offices if urgent concerns arise during the holiday period.
For many farmers and small business owners, clear information on office schedules helps them manage their time and resources better. The DA said advisories like this are part of its effort to keep stakeholders informed and prepared, especially during busy seasons.
As the holidays approach, the Bureau of Animal Industry thanked the public for their cooperation and understanding. It also extended its wishes for a safe and peaceful holiday season to farmers, industry workers, and the general public.
With proper planning and awareness of government schedules, stakeholders can enjoy the holidays with fewer worries and start the new year ready to resume their work.
