Inside the offices of the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), staff members spent weeks learning how to better care for government assets — from office equipment to agricultural facilities that serve Filipino farmers. By the end of October 30, 2025, the agency successfully completed its Training for Property Custodians, a key step in promoting accountability and efficiency in government operations.

The training was conducted in three batches from August 25 to September 26, 2025, and was attended by BPI representatives from various divisions and regional stations. It focused on strengthening the knowledge and skills of property custodians in managing government assets through proper documentation, handling, and reporting.

During each batch, participants took part in interactive sessions and practical exercises designed to enhance their understanding of property and supply management. The discussions highlighted the importance of transparency, accuracy, and accountability in handling public resources — values that are central to good governance.

According to the BPI, the initiative forms part of its continuing effort to ensure integrity in government property management while improving public service delivery. By training its personnel, the bureau aims to reduce wastage, improve record-keeping, and ensure that every government-issued asset is used properly for agricultural development.

“The Bureau of Plant Industry is committed to upholding efficiency and transparency in all its operations. Through this training, our custodians are better equipped to manage government resources responsibly,” the agency said in a statement.

The activity also supports the Department of Agriculture’s broader goal of improving administrative systems to make agricultural services more efficient, sustainable, and corruption-free. Proper property management helps ensure that government funds are maximized and that facilities, vehicles, and equipment reach the farmers who need them most.

The BPI emphasized that this kind of capacity-building program not only benefits internal operations but also contributes to restoring public trust in government institutions. As one participant noted, “Every property we manage represents the people’s money. It’s our duty to take care of it.”

Through continued training and accountability measures, the Bureau hopes to set an example for other agencies in promoting good governance, resource efficiency, and public service excellence in the agriculture sector.
