In a move that strengthens public trust in the country’s meat supply, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) has successfully passed the ISO PNS 9001:2015 Stage 2 Recertification Audit, proving its dedication to quality and safety in food regulation.
For four days, from August 27 to September 1, 2025, NMIS underwent a thorough virtual audit conducted by W3 Solutionz. The evaluation covered all corners of the agency’s operations — from management policies and procedure manuals to organizational systems — and found full compliance with international quality standards.
Despite the complexity of the audit process, NMIS met all required criteria and received only minor notes for improvement. These small suggestions, referred to as Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs), show that while the system is strong, the agency remains open to constant enhancement.
Dr. Roberto S. Umali, Officer-In-Charge and Executive Director, led the agency during this milestone, alongside regional teams from the Regional Technical Operation Centers (RTOCs) and the Quality Management System (QMS) team headed by Mr. Ariel P. Lupenario.
This certification means more than just passing a test. It’s proof that NMIS upholds high standards in its daily operations — ensuring that every piece of meat inspected under its watch is safe, hygienic, and fit for Filipino tables. The ISO PNS 9001:2015 standard is recognized worldwide and sets a benchmark for strong internal systems, customer satisfaction, and effective regulatory practices.
For Filipino consumers, especially those in Classes C, D, and E who rely heavily on local markets and affordable food sources, this certification is a reassurance. It shows that NMIS continues to work behind the scenes to protect the public from unsafe or substandard meat products.
NMIS plays a critical role in monitoring slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, and public markets across the country. With this ISO recertification, the agency reinforces its leadership in enforcing food safety laws and strengthening consumer confidence.
In a time when food safety is more important than ever, NMIS’s achievement serves as a reminder of the value of strong public institutions that work to protect both health and livelihood.
