In the towns of Lopez, Perez, Quezon, and Mauban, farmers watched as their water buffaloes, cows, and horses received expert care during a recent veterinary mission. The provincial government of Quezon, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, organized the event to bring free animal health services directly to the communities.

The Veterinary Medical Mission, held in February 2026, offered a range of services including estrus synchronization and artificial insemination for large ruminants. A total of 538 water buffaloes, 76 cows, and 14 horses owned by 442 local farmers received care during the program.

In addition to reproductive services, veterinary teams provided vitamins to 467 animals and dewormed 393 others to improve overall health and productivity. These efforts aim to strengthen livestock health, increase farm productivity, and support the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the province.

The initiative was made possible through collaboration with key partners, including the Philippine Carabao Center – University of the Philippines Los Baños, the Regional Artificial Insemination Center, the National Dairy Authority – South Luzon, the Bureau of Animal Industry, and local government units of Lopez, Perez, Quezon, and Mauban.

Provincial officials emphasized that regular veterinary support is essential for sustainable livestock production. By keeping animals healthy and productive, farmers can secure higher yields, improve income, and contribute to the local food supply.

Through these coordinated efforts, Quezon continues to strengthen its agricultural sector while ensuring farmers receive the support and resources needed to thrive.
