A night of pride and recognition lit up the Isla Ballroom of Edsa Shangri-La Manila as Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Executive Director Arnold Ali Atienza was honored with the EPIC Award for Excellence and Leadership by the Philippine Academy of Medical Specialists, Inc. (PAMS) during its 31st Annual Convention in Mandaluyong City.

The award celebrates Director Atienza’s pioneering vision and strong leadership in advancing the country’s natural fiber industry. Under his direction, PhilFIDA has implemented transformative programs aimed at empowering farmers and weavers, boosting the competitiveness of the local fiber sector, and promoting innovation through digital modernization.

In line with the goals of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the priorities of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., Atienza has been instrumental in guiding the agency toward a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural economy. His initiatives focus on strengthening the production of abaca, pineapple, and other indigenous fibers, which serve as vital sources of income for thousands of rural families.

Atienza’s leadership has also driven efforts to integrate modern technologies into fiber processing and marketing, improving both the quality and global marketability of Filipino-made fibers. These initiatives contribute to the country’s ongoing push for “Bagong Pilipinas”—a government campaign for reform, innovation, and progress across all sectors.

The EPIC Award (Excellence, Professionalism, Integrity, and Commitment) is given to individuals whose service and leadership bring meaningful change to their institutions and communities. By recognizing a government leader outside the medical field, PAMS highlights how values of public service and nation-building transcend professions.

In his message of thanks, Atienza dedicated the award to the hardworking farmers, weavers, and staff of PhilFIDA. “This recognition is for every Filipino who continues to work for a stronger, more sustainable fiber industry. Our goal is to make Philippine fibers known not only for quality but also for the stories of resilience and craftsmanship behind them,” he said.

As the global demand for sustainable materials rises, the Philippines—through agencies like PhilFIDA—continues to position itself as a key player in eco-friendly textiles. With innovation and collaboration at the forefront, the country’s fiber sector aims to deliver both livelihood and national pride to future generations.
