This week, employees at the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) adjusted their work schedules as the agency rolled out a new energy-saving initiative. Offices nationwide will now operate under a four-day on-site work arrangement, while Fridays will be reserved for remote work.
Under the plan, PCA staff will work face-to-face from Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Fridays will follow a work-from-home setup from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This schedule aligns with Presidential Memorandum Circular No. 114, which encourages government offices to adopt energy conservation measures.
Officials said the arrangement is part of the government’s broader effort to reduce electricity consumption while maintaining service delivery. The PCA emphasized that critical services will continue even on remote workdays. For example, the Laboratory Services Division (LSD) will remain operational on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to handle laboratory and technical tasks that require on-site attention.
Citizens and stakeholders are reminded that documents due on Fridays can be submitted online or left with the security guard on duty at PCA offices. The agency encourages everyone to plan submissions in advance to ensure smooth processing despite the shorter workday.
Energy-saving policies such as this four-day on-site schedule are increasingly adopted by government offices nationwide. By reducing office hours and allowing partial remote work, agencies can lower electricity use, promote sustainability, and still provide essential services to the public.
The PCA said the new arrangement also gives employees a better balance between office responsibilities and remote tasks. Officials noted that work efficiency and public service remain a priority, even as the agency implements environmentally conscious practices.
Through this measure, the PCA aims to contribute to the country’s energy conservation goals while ensuring that coconut industry services—from research to technical support—continue without disruption.
