The fields of Brgy. Bagontapay in M’lang, North Cotabato, came alive on March 11, 2026, as over 150 local farmers gathered to celebrate the “Palay Harvest Festival and Farmers’ Field Day.” The event highlighted the success of science-based farming and sustainable soil management practices.
Under the National Soil Health Program (NSHP) – Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy (ABFS), farmers from the Bagontapay New Barbaza Buayan Lepaga (BNBL) Irrigators Association Inc. and Dugong Maharlika Organic Farmers Association (DMOFA) showcased their harvest from more than 200 hectares of model farm sites. These farmers demonstrated how proper fertilization techniques and careful soil management can lead to higher yields, healthier crops, and stronger farm livelihoods.
The festival also served as a platform for farmers to exchange knowledge, witness practical demonstrations, and learn about modern farming technologies that can improve productivity while protecting the environment. Organizers emphasized that the project reflects the power of collaboration between government agencies and local farmer associations to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure food security.
Mariecar F. Gumafelix of the Soil and Crop Management Division noted that initiatives like the harvest festival are essential in encouraging farmers to adopt best practices in crop management, helping them achieve better quality harvests and stable income.
This celebration stands as a testament to the impact of science-driven agriculture and community cooperation in building resilient farming communities across the region.
