In a proud moment for gender equality, the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) was recognized by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) for its outstanding commitment to using the 2024 Gender and Development (GAD) Budget. The awards highlight the agency’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment and gender fairness in its programs and services.

During the recognition ceremony held on September 25, 2025, at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, the NTA received two major honors. It ranked seventh among government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) for the highest client-focused GAD budget allocation. It also placed eighth for the highest client-focused GAD budget spending.

The GAD Budget is not just a financial allocation. According to the PCW, it represents a government commitment to make gender equality a key part of public service. By including GAD principles in policies and programs, government agencies ensure that every peso is spent on projects that truly benefit women and marginalized groups. This helps create a more inclusive society where everyone’s rights and dignity are respected.

NTA Administrator and CEO Belinda S. Sanchez, the agency’s first female leader, and GAD focal champion Fortuna C. Benosa accepted the awards on behalf of the agency. Their leadership reflects the NTA’s dedication to integrating gender sensitivity across its work.

The recognition affirms the importance of government efforts to address gender gaps and empower women in all sectors. By successfully managing its GAD Budget, the NTA sets an example for other agencies to prioritize inclusivity and equal opportunities for all Filipinos.

As the country moves toward greater gender equality, such awards remind us that real progress requires consistent action and genuine commitment. Government programs that focus on gender and development are key to building a fairer and more just Philippines.
