Bright colors and delicate shapes filled the small hall of the NFA Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) as women from the community carefully twisted fuzzy wires into beautiful floral designs. The lively atmosphere was filled with curiosity and excitement, as participants learned a new craft that could grow into a livelihood.

In celebration of National Women’s Month this March 2026, the National Food Authority (NFA) Gender and Development (GAD) team, in partnership with the NFA MPC, held a “Fuzzy Wire Flower Making Livelihood Seminar” for local women. The program aimed to provide practical skills that can help participants start small businesses or supplement household income.

Dr. Mario G. Andrada, Department Manager of Corporate Planning and Management and a member of the GAD Focal Point System and Technical Working Group, addressed the attendees. He emphasized the value of creativity and patience in the new craft. “This new craft is a symbol of transformation—turning simple materials into beautiful creations through patience, imagination, and dedication,” he said.

The seminar guided participants through hands-on activities, demonstrating techniques to shape and combine fuzzy wires into decorative flowers. Women were encouraged to explore their creativity while learning methods that could be scaled into marketable products. NFA GAD hopes the training will not only empower women economically but also inspire confidence and self-expression.

Livelihood programs like this align with NFA’s broader mission to support communities, especially women, in developing skills that contribute to financial independence. By introducing practical, creative opportunities, NFA GAD continues to promote gender equality and community development.

As the seminar concluded, many participants expressed excitement at the possibility of turning their new skills into small businesses, selling colorful flowers at local markets, or decorating homes and events. This initiative reflects a commitment to uplift women while celebrating their creativity and resilience during National Women’s Month.
