After years of hard work and reform, the National Food Authority (NFA) has achieved an “Excellent” rating in its latest government performance evaluation—the agency’s first top score in five years. The recognition highlights the NFA’s continuing efforts to strengthen public trust and improve the quality of its rice supply and services nationwide.
In a statement, NFA Administrator Larry Lacson celebrated the achievement, calling it a victory not only for the agency but also for farmers and consumers who depend on the NFA’s programs. “Sa Serbisyong Pataas at Tapat, Bigas ay Laging Dekalidad,” Lacson said, emphasizing the agency’s renewed mission under the Marcos administration’s Bagong Pilipinas governance framework.
The “Excellent” mark was based on the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) evaluation, a national system that measures efficiency, transparency, and service delivery among government agencies. The NFA’s improved rating reflects reforms in rice procurement, buffer stocking, and distribution, as well as stronger anti-corruption and accountability measures within the agency.
Over the past few years, the NFA has faced major challenges—fluctuating rice prices, supply shortages, and the impact of global inflation on food costs. Under new leadership, the agency has focused on streamlining operations, strengthening local rice procurement from Filipino farmers, and maintaining sufficient national buffer stocks to ensure stable rice supply during disasters and emergencies.
Administrator Lacson credited the dedication of NFA employees across the country for the turnaround. “This achievement belongs to every NFA worker—from warehouse staff to field inspectors—who continue to serve with integrity and compassion,” he said.
The NFA is responsible for maintaining the country’s rice reserves, ensuring food security, and supporting farmers through the purchase of locally produced palay. The agency’s reforms are aligned with the government’s broader goal of achieving affordable and sustainable rice supply under Bagong Pilipinas.
For many Filipinos, rice remains a central part of daily life—and an “Excellent” rating for the NFA signals renewed confidence that the country’s food supply agency is moving in the right direction. Officials said the agency will continue to improve transparency, enhance farmer assistance programs, and modernize rice storage and distribution systems.
The NFA hopes that this milestone will inspire continued trust and cooperation between the government, farmers, and the public. As Administrator Lacson noted, the agency’s mission remains clear: to serve the Filipino people with honesty, fairness, and dedication—ensuring that every grain of rice reaching Filipino homes is of the best quality.
