In a small dairy farm in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur, local farmers wake up before dawn to care for their cows. Their hard work sustains families and feeds communities, but challenges remain in improving milk production and income.
On September 17, 2025, the National Dairy Authority (NDA) stepped in to support these farmers with ₱1.17 million in aid, alongside the Department of Agriculture’s assistance distributed in Pagadian City. This funding targets dairy farmers in Mahayag and Molave, two key towns in the province.
The project aims to improve the breed quality of local cattle and increase milk output. Better livestock means more milk for families and markets, and ultimately a more stable livelihood for farmers who depend on dairy farming.
Dairy farming in Zamboanga del Sur has faced difficulties due to limited access to quality breeds, proper veterinary care, and modern farming techniques. This aid will help farmers upgrade their herds, provide training on animal health and nutrition, and support facilities needed for dairy production.
The Department of Agriculture and NDA continue to prioritize rural development and food security by assisting small-scale farmers. These efforts align with the government’s broader goal of building a more resilient agricultural sector that benefits all Filipinos, especially those in rural areas.
By supporting dairy farmers in Mindanao, the government hopes to increase local milk supply, reduce dependence on imported dairy products, and improve the welfare of farming families.
As these farmers receive new support, the future looks brighter for the dairy industry in Zamboanga del Sur—one where better breeds and stronger communities go hand in hand.
