Early discussions in Romblon focused on bringing fresh milk closer to local communities. Farmers, local officials, and dairy experts gathered to explore opportunities that could provide steady livelihoods and improve nutrition for families across the province.

On Thursday, the National Dairy Authority (NDA) held an exploratory meeting with the provincial government of Romblon to discuss expanding the agency’s dairy development programs in the area. The meeting included NDA Administrator Marcus Antonius Andaya, Romblon Representative Eleandro Jesus Madrona, and 14 of the province’s 17 mayors.

During the session, NDA presented its current programs and outlined plans to establish local milk production facilities. The goal is to create a sustainable source of locally produced milk that can support government feeding programs, boost nutrition, and ensure residents have easier access to fresh milk.

The agency emphasized that developing local dairy production not only benefits consumers but also strengthens livelihoods for farmers. By introducing proper training, farm support, and production infrastructure, Romblon farmers could participate in a growing market for dairy products.

NDA’s expansion plan aligns with the government’s broader objective to improve food security and support rural development. Access to locally produced milk reduces dependency on imports and encourages community-based farming, which can generate income while ensuring fresh, safe, and nutritious dairy for households.

Officials agreed to continue exploring partnerships, technical support, and funding mechanisms to ensure the dairy programs’ success. The collaboration between NDA and the provincial government signals a step forward in building resilient local food systems in Romblon.

With Romblon poised to become a hub for local dairy, the initiative aims to provide both economic opportunities for farmers and healthier options for families.
